​WJMS Named Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School

West Jackson Middle School is now the fourth school within the Jackson County School System to be named a Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse School. 

West Jackson Middle learned about the honor on Thursday, joining East Jackson Elementary School, Maysville Elementary School and East Jackson High School as Lighthouse Schools, the highest distinction bestowed upon a school by the Blue Ribbon Schools organization.

The Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Distinction follows a thorough assessment that provides insight into a school's strengths. Schools are assessed on a multitude of categories that include: school culture and climate; challenging curriculum; active teaching and learning; technology integration; professional community; leadership and education vitality; school, family and community partnerships; and indicators of success.

The Blue Ribbon Lighthouse certification lasts five years for West Jackson Middle School, during which time it will have the opportunity to collaborate on exemplary practices with other schools on a local, regional, and national level, as well as providing mentoring and networking to schools seeking guidance and assistance in school improvement initiatives.
