West Jackson Middle Named GaDoe Literacy Leader
West Jackson Middle School was named a Literacy Leader by the Georgia Department of Education on Friday.
Schools were recognized for achievement or growth in the percentage of students reading at or above grade level. The criteria for the Literacy Leader awards recognize the crucial importance of grade-level reading in third and sixth grades.
West Jackson Middle School was named a Literacy Leader for gateway growth for sixth grade and for growth in seventh and eighth grades.
Literacy Leader qualifications use the Georgia Milestones Reading Status indicator, which is based on the Lexile score associated with students’ performance on a subset of questions on the ELA assessment.
West Jackson Middle School will be presented with a Literacy Leader Banner by Georgia State School Superintendent Dr. Richard Woods, who presented a Literacy Leader banner to Gum Springs Elementary School and Maysville Elementary School last school year.
