Three JCSS Schools Presented With School Leader Banners

Three JCSS Schools Presented With School Leader Banners

Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods presented three Jackson County schools with recognition banners Friday afternoon.

East Jackson Elementary School, Legacy Knoll Middle School and West Jackson Middle School were presented with Mathematics Leader Banners, while WJMS also received a Literacy Leader Banner.

Math Leader Schools are recognized at the state level for understanding and demonstrating the fundamental importance of mathematics in students' educations and future careers.

East Jackson Elementary School was recognized for fifth grade Gateway Growth, while Legacy Knoll Middle School was recognized for high school achievement. West Jackson Middle School was recognized for sixth and seventh grade growth, eighth grade gateway growth, and high school achievement and growth.

Math Leader qualifications are based on students achieving the Proficient Learner level or above on the Georgia Milestones mathematics assessments.

Schools were recognized for achievement or growth in the percentage of students reading at or above grade level. The criteria for the Literacy Leader awards recognize the crucial importance of grade-level reading in third and sixth grades.

West Jackson Middle School was named a Literacy Leader for gateway growth for sixth grade and for growth in seventh and eighth grades.

Literacy Leader qualifications use the Georgia Milestones Reading Status indicator, which is based on the Lexile score associated with students’ performance on a subset of questions on the ELA assessment.

Gum Springs Elementary and Maysville Elementary were presented with Literacy Leader Banners during the 2023-24 school year.
