Clerici, Smoot Appointed to Jackson County BOE

Clerici, Smoot appointed to JCSS BOE

The Jackson County Board of Education appointed two new members Monday night. The Board voted unanimously to appoint Don Clerici to serve District 5 and Ryan Smoot to serve District 3.

Both Clerici and Smoot will be sworn in at a later date.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Clerici and Mr. Smoot to our Board of Education,” Chairman Ricky J. Sanders said. “These two individuals understand the importance of public education and the role the Board of Education serves in a community. I, along with Ms. Wheeler and Mr. Johnson, look forward to working alongside these two individuals, supporting the amazing work being done on a daily basis inside of our system.”

Clerici previously served on the Board of Education from 2019-2022, serving the last two years of his tenure as the Chairman. Clerici’s three children all graduated from the Jackson County School System.

“I love this community and I have always felt a calling to serve,” said Clerici,  who is a civil engineer and President of BM&K Construction. “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve again. I will be a strong voice for our parents and students.”

Smoot, who is a former Eagle scout and volunteers as a youth coach in the community, has four children who currently attend schools within the system. Smoot works in commercial real estate and raises cattle on a family-owned farm.

“I see a Board member helps set the vision for the district and keeps the focus on student success and long term improvements,” said Smoot, who is fluent in Spanish. “I wanted my kids to be in Jackson County and I have experienced great things happening in Jackson County.”
